Course Description:
Since European literature often alludes to classical sources, the study with reference to Homer, Virgil and Euripides, Aeschylus, Aristophanes will help students immensely in their relevant courses.
Aim:
This course aims at imparting a comprehensive view about the growth and development of classical epic and drama.
Objectives:
- To use the terms related to the study of the classics.
- To appraise the classical tradition of performance at the amphitheater, and the epic tradition.
- To critically analyze the influence of the epics and the plays in English literature.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course, students will be able to -
- appraise classical literature and its impact on English literature
- use the terms related to epics and plays in their analysis
- connect to Aristotle's ideas about tragedies and differentiate with modern plays
